- peer-to-peer streaming: This is downloading/streaming a file from someone else who has the file, rather than directly from the server. This is often used for piracy of music, movies, games, software and more
- Data Controller: A controller is someone who determines the purposes and means on processing the personal data
- Information Commissioner: A processor is responsible for processing personal data on behalf of the controller
- Subject Access Request (SAR): This is where individuals are entitled to have the right to access and receive a copy of their personal data
- Hacking: The act of gaining unauthorised access to data in a computer system
- Digital Signature: Use encrypted messages that identify the sender of the data confirming who they claim to be. SSL (secure socket layer) is a protocol that allows for a secure and encrypted link between the computer system.
- Firewalls: This prevents certain types of data or users accessing the system.
- DDoS: Distributed Denial of Service. Lots of requests made to a server at the same time from lots of computers, which crashes the server as it can’t handle the number of incoming requests
